Exercise 3: "I'm Not a Morning Person" Assertive Communication in Action
Imagine you're at the office, and your coworker, Bob, keeps sending you "good morning!" emails at 6 AM every day. You're not a morning person, but Bob's enthusiasm is... persistent.
It's time to set boundaries! Using assertive communication, you'll tell Bob exactly how you feel and what you need. No passive-aggressive "Oh, I'm just really happy to see your email, Bob!" or aggressive "STOP SENDING ME GOOD MORNING EMAILS, BOB!"
Instead, you'll say: "Bob, I appreciate your enthusiasm, but I'm not a morning person. Could we stick to afternoon or evening emails?"
And that's it! You've set a boundary and communicated your needs in a clear, assertive way. Now, go forth and conquer the world of office communication (or at least, your inbox).
