Step 8: The Denial - How to Deal with In-Laws

Step 8: The Denial is where things start to get really fun.

This is where you get to tell yourself that your mother-in-law is just "concerned" about your life choices. Yeah, that's it. She's just worried about you, not actually judging you for choosing to live in a studio apartment with a futon bed and a mini-fridge.

Denial is like the first stage of grief, but with more yelling and less acceptance. It's like, "I'm not controlling! I'm just trying to help!"

But don't worry, you can get through this stage too. Just repeat the following mantras to yourself whenever she starts talking about your life: "I am an adult," "I can take care of myself," and "I don't need to eat at my mother-in-law's house every Sunday for the rest of my life."

Or just tell her to go ahead and have a heart attack, we all know you've been waiting for one for years anyway.
