The 5-Second Rule

For the uninitiated, the 5-Second Rule is not actually a real risk-management strategy. It's just a thing your aunt told you to do when you were a kid.

In the interest of thoroughness, here are some examples of how the 5-Second Rule might apply in real life:

  1. When you're cooking, don't let a piece of toast sit on the counter for 5 seconds before eating it. It's still good!
  2. Don't let your friend's dirty socks sit in your laundry basket for 5 seconds before putting them in the washing machine. Germs are gross!
  3. Don't look at the clock for 5 seconds when you're trying to sneak a snack in the kitchen. Your aunt won't notice!

And that's it. That's the entirety of the 5-Second Rule. Don't @ me, @.
