Myths

It is said that the ancient Greeks believed that olive oil was the tears of the goddess Athena, wept for the mortal who had offended her.

Other myths claim that olive oil was the blood of the god Zeus, shed for the people of Greece, to bring them fertility and prosperity.

We can't confirm or deny these claims, but they sound like a pretty good excuse for a nice Greek salad.
