Taster McTasterson's Guide to Not Spilling Wine on Your Shirt
Now that you've mastered the art of Basic Tasting Techniques, it's time to take your skills to the next level.
Warning: Tasting wine is a serious business, but we're all about having fun with it.
Technique 1: The Pinch-and-Swirl Method
Hold the wine in your glass like you mean it, then pinch the wine between your thumb and index finger to release the flavors.
- Pinch the wine, don't squeeze it. You don't want to be that guy who over-oxygenates the wine.
- Swirl the wine, but not too much. You want to release the flavors, not create a wine-fueled tornado.
Example:
pinch + swirl = wine release
Technique 2: The Nose-First Approach
Stick your nose in the glass and inhale deeply. Yes, it's that simple.
Example:
nose-first approach = wine aroma explosion
