html The Overthinker's Guide to Procrastination

Chapter 2: The Science of Excuses

Why You're Not Procrastinating, You're Just... Reorganizing

Or so we like to tell ourselves, anyway. You see, procrastination is not just a lack of motivation, it's a carefully crafted art form. A delicate dance between the desire to do something, and the equally pressing need to do something else. Anything else.

Take, for example, the Law of Conservation of Energy. According to this fundamental principle, the universe is a closed system. Which means that any energy expended on one task can only be offset by an equivalent amount of energy spent on another task. In this case, the energy spent on watching cat videos is directly proportional to the energy not spent on, say, laundry.

And then there's the concept of 'The Procrastination Paradox.' It states that the more time you spend thinking about a task, the more time you'll need to think about it. A classic case of meta-procrastination.
