Why Does Gravity Only Pull Downwards?

It's a conundrum that has puzzled scientists and philosophers for centuries. Gravity, that invisible force that holds us all together, only pulls downwards. Why not upwards? Why not sideways? Why not... diagonally?

Some say it's because of the way the universe was created. Maybe it was just a big ol' cosmic accident, and the laws of physics were set in motion by a mischievous deity with a sense of humor.

Others claim it's because of the way the laws of physics are written. You see, gravity is just a big ol' formula, and if you plug in the wrong numbers, it'll always come out the same way: downwards.

But we may never know the true reason. All we can do is stand on the surface of the earth and marvel at the way things just... fall.
