Deflection, n. The act of diverting one's resources away from something that will inevitably lead to trouble and towards something that will likely lead to mild success or at the very least, less trouble.
Examples:
- Deflection by Proxy: Using a subordinate as a human shield to deflect responsibility.
- Bureaucratic Deflection: Using red tape to slow down a project until it's no longer relevant.
- Deflecting by Delegation: Passing the buck to someone who will probably do it wrong anyway.
But be careful, for in the wrong hands, deflection can become a Deflection-101 and lead to a life of constant disappointment and mild anxiety.
