Colonial Savory Sauce Recipe (aka "The Sauce of the Ancients")
For when your taste buds have been colonized by the British
To make this most excellent of sauces, combine:
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese (optional)
Instructions:
- Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat
- Whisk in the flour and stir until smooth
- Slowly add the cream, whisking constantly
- Add the salt, pepper, and paprika, stirring until combined
- Mince the garlic and add it to the sauce
- Drizzle in the honey, whisking until dissolved
- If using, add the cheddar and stir until melted and combined
- Serve over your favorite dish, perhaps some fish 'n chips?
